Literary film adaptation: Joachim Meyerhoff's idea of a happy childhood

For the writer and actor Joachim Meyerhoff, a cheerful atmosphere is part of a happy childhood. "Of course, a happy childhood needs security, but it was always extremely important to me that it was cheerful, even amusing," said the 55-year-old of the German Press Agency. "And you need parents who are there, but who are also away from time to time - let them out of sight - let them roam around. And right now, of course, we're also seeing that peace is simply needed."

Meyerhoff has written about his own childhood and youth in autobiographical novels. On Friday evening, the film adaptation of his book "When will it finally be like it never was" premiered at the Berlinale.
