Life as a star: "Avatar" star Worthington: Car instead of apartment

Australian actor Sam Worthington found life in Sydney overwhelming before landing the lead in the first 'Avatar' film. "I sold everything I owned to my friends because I didn't like who I was," the 46-year-old told Variety magazine. "I had to get the fuck out. I lived in Sydney and whenever I went into a bar people recognized me. I rebelled against that."

According to the interview, Worthington, who at the time had been acting in a few Australian films, moved out of his flat and lived in his car for a time. Worthington was willing to move to Los Angeles and trade the car for a hotel in order to play ex-soldier Jake Sully for director James Cameron.

The science fiction adventure "Avatar - Aufbruch nach Pandora" (2009) is considered the most financially successful film in history with worldwide revenues of over 2.8 billion dollars. The sequel "The Way of Water" is currently in cinemas.
