Lewis Hamilton: Formula 1 star sees future in the film business

The racing driver Lewis Hamilton (37) is not only one of the biggest stars of Formula 1. The film business has apparently done it to the British. As the industry portal "Deadline" reports, Hamilton is founding his own production company called Dawn Apollo Films. The seven-time world champion also hints that he wants to focus fully on the company after his retirement, which appears to be a long way off.

Film and TV productions are to be created under the banner of Dawn Apollo Films. Two projects are already planned: a documentary about Hamilton's own journey to becoming a professional racing driver and an untitled Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt (58). It is a project by "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski (48), which had previously been reported. Hamilton is executive producing on the film, in which Pitt will play a racing driver coming out of retirement. Both productions are to be released via the Apple TV streaming service.

"I've always liked movies," Hamilton told Deadline. There are many productions that he finds inspirational and he always dreamed of working in this field one day. Hamilton wants to tell "meaningful stories" with his production company and inspire other people as well.

It is currently planned that the documentation will be released in late 2023 or early 2024. Since the screenplay for the film with Pitt is currently being worked on, there is no planned time slot here. It's also not clear if Hamilton might even be seen alongside the actor. While he doesn't plan to appear in the film, it's not impossible.

In the interview, Hamilton assures that he still wants to focus entirely on motorsport as his main job. However, if he says goodbye to Formula 1, which he doesn't want to do for a while according to the current status, he would like to be able to guarantee a "seamless" transition. The 37-year-old wants to be able to "focus fully on Dawn Apollo Films". Hamilton lets it be known that he has big plans. With the production company he wants to act on a comparable level as in motorsport.
