The Spaniards narrowly defeated Croatia on penalties in the final. Goalkeeper Unai Simón (26) sealed the 5-4 victory for the Iberians with two saved shots. King Felipe is a self-confessed football fan and, as reported by the Spanish media, had lively discussions with the players about the exciting final.
The 55-year-old monarch was even able to look forward to a very special gift. He was presented with a national team jersey signed by all winners - printed with the number 12 and his name. Felipe was also allowed to hold the trophy in his hands.
