King Charles III (74) will visit Germany at the end of the month. The Office of the Federal President has now officially confirmed this. The British monarch should therefore arrive in Berlin together with his wife Camilla (75) on March 29 - and be welcomed with military honors by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (67) and his wife Elke Büdenbender (61). In a video message, Steinmeier said: "It gives me great pleasure to welcome King Charles and his wife Camilla to a state visit at the end of March."

According to the Office of the Federal President, a state banquet in honor of the English king is scheduled for the evening of March 29 at Bellevue Palace in Berlin. The following day, Charles III will. appointments in Berlin and Brandenburg before the monarch is to travel to Hamburg with Federal President Steinmeier on the third day of his trip to Germany.

In his video message, Federal President Steinmeier is pleased that "the king has decided to come to Germany before his coronation". This underlines "the close and warm friendship between our countries and our citizens".

Before his visit to Germany, King Charles III. expected in Paris from March 27, as reported by the French media a few weeks ago. The state visit is Charles' first trip abroad as a monarch. On May 6, the 74-year-old is to be crowned King of Great Britain in Westminster Abbey in London

According to Federal President Steinmeier, Charles' first destinations France and Germany would "also represent an important European gesture". "I would like to say to him, but of course also to all Britons: We in Germany, we in Europe, want close and friendly relations with the United Kingdom even after Brexit," Steinmeier continued.

King Charles III last visited Germany with his wife Camilla in November 2020 - at that time still as Prince Charles. The late English monarch Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) last visited Germany in 2015.
