King Charles III: Appearance on Antiques Show

A British TV show can look forward to a special star guest: King Charles III. (73) will appear in a special episode of "The Repair Shop". The BBC announced this Wednesday (October 12). The British broadcaster celebrates its 100th birthday in 2022 and this was the occasion for the TV appearance of the monarch, who was still the Prince of Wales at the time, according to the announcement. What is behind the format?

In "The Repair Shop" on BBC One, family heirlooms are restored for their owners by numerous experts. The viewers also learn about the often emotional stories behind the antiques. Furniture restorer Jay Blades (52) leads through the show, which started with Charles III. welcomed a prominent owner. The current king presents ceramic pieces made for Queen Victoria's (1819-1901) Diamond Jubilee in 1897 and an 18th-century wall clock to the experts in the pre-recorded episode. Blades and his team met Charles at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland.

As the episode will show, they are given a personal tour of the estate by the Royal and meet members of a Prince's Foundation program that teaches traditional crafts such as blacksmithing and wood carving. "People will see the former Prince of Wales in a way rarely seen - and he is just as fascinated by the skills of the team who work on his pieces as any of our visitors to the Repair Shop," said the BBC spokeswoman Julie Shaw on the special. The show was filmed between fall 2021 and March 2022. It will be broadcast on BBC One on October 26th.
