"Joker 2": First photo of the DC sequel released

A first picture of the "Joker" sequel "Folie à Deux" has been published. Todd Phillips (51), the film's director, shared a snapshot of leading actor Joaquin Phoenix (48) on Instagram. The filmmaker writes: "Day one. Our boy". So the shooting of the eagerly awaited "Joker" sequel has apparently begun. The DC film is slated to hit theaters in October 2024.

In 2019, "Joker" became a huge financial success. At the global box office, the gritty, grown-up comic adaptation brought in the incredible sum of over one billion US dollars. There were also two Oscars, including one for Joker actor Phoenix as "Best Actor". In addition to Phoenix, Lady Gaga (36), Zazie Beetz (31), Brendan Gleeson (67) and Catherine Keener (63) have already been announced as cast members for "Joker 2". Lady Gaga will embody Harley Quinn, who will later become the main character's girlfriend.

Not much is known about the history of the sequel. According to media reports, "Joker: Folie à Deux" is to become a musical - and could play in the so-called Arkham Asylum, Gotham City's mental institution. That's where the main character Arthur Fleck ended up at the end of the first part.
