"Joker 2": Brendan Gleeson joins the DC sequel

The acting ensemble of the "Joker" sequel "Folie à Deux" is growing. As the industry magazine "Hollywood Reporter" reports, Irish character actor Brendan Gleeson joins the upcoming DC sequel. Gleeson will take on an as yet undisclosed role. Lead actor and returnee Joaquin Phoenix (47) and Lady Gaga (36) were previously confirmed for "Joker 2". The singer-actress is set to play Harley Quinn, the girlfriend of the titular hero. Zazie Beetz (31), who could already be seen in part one, should also be part of the party.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" will start in US cinemas on October 4, 2024 and, according to media reports, will become a musical. Director Todd Phillips (51) takes over the production again. The term "Folie à Deux" describes a psychotic disorder in which people close to each other develop a common delusional idea. Since the first part of 2019 ended with the Joker ending up in Gotham City's mental institution, the so-called Arkham Asylum could become one of the locations of the new film.

The actor Brendan Gleeson, who is now reported for the sequel, last worked alongside his compatriot Colin Farrell (46) in the drama "The Banshees of Inisherin". Director Martin McDonagh's (52) film will premiere on September 5 at the Venice Film Festival. The shooting of "Joker: Folie à Deux" is scheduled to begin in December of this year, according to "Deadline".
