"John Wick" spin-off "Ballerina": Norman Reedus takes over part

"Ballerina", a spin-off of the extremely successful "John Wick" film series, is currently being developed in the Czech capital of Prague. The leading role of Rooney is taken on by the Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas (34), who is known from the Netflix film "Blond". As the industry magazine "Deadline" now reports, acting roughneck Norman Reedus (53) will also take part in the offshoot. Reedus played the main character Daryl Dixon in the recently ended zombie series "The Walking Dead". Details of the actor's "Ballerina" role are not yet known. Franchise star Keanu Reeves (58) is said to have already been in front of the camera for "Ballerina". The film is expected to hit theaters late next year or 2024.

Reedus reinforces the already impressive "Ballerina" cast. In addition to superstar Reeves, who may only make a brief cameo appearance, the spin-off film will also star Ian McShane (80), Lance Reddick (59) and Anjelica Huston (71). Regarding Reedus' involvement, producer Erica Lee told Deadline: "We're huge fans of Norman [Reedus] and we're confident that fans will be just as excited as we are about him becoming a part of the Wick universe."

The "Ballerina" main character Rooney, embodied by de Armas, was already seen briefly in "John Wick: Chapter 3" from 2019, then played by Unity Phelan (27). Rooney is - like the main character in the franchise, John Wick - a contract killer, and at the same time - as the film's title suggests - a ballerina. In the most likely leaden work, which is located between "John Wick: Chapter 3" and "John Wick: Chapter 4", which starts on March 23, 2023, the protagonist hunts down the murderers of her family.
