"Luther" star Idris Elba (50) complained with a wink about his choice of "Sexiest Man Alive" 2018. It was his "toughest role ever," Elba said in an interview with "ET Canada." He still remembered the associated shoot: "I said to the photographer: 'I don't always look good in photos, this picture has to be great.'" He replied: "'No, no, no. We already have one Done a million times, we know how to do it.' And I said, 'Ok, I'll just be me.'" Then they would have used his favorite camera angle for the cover.
The 50-year-old has been in the acting industry for years. He has received numerous awards and has appeared in various Hollywood films in addition to the enormously successful BBC series "Luther". Still, Elba tells that he's still surprised when he's recognized.
"I don't assume everyone knows who I am, even though I've been acting for a long time," said the Brit. "When I look in the mirror, all I see is a guy who tried to be an actor. So when I go to a restaurant in the middle of Belgium, I don't expect everyone to recognize me."
In fact, the actor has been touted as the next 007 for some time. Idris Elba has repeatedly denied rumors that he could be the next James Bond. After Daniel Craig's (55) exit from the franchise, he was not even close to the role, Elba recently told the "Guardian". "It's a compliment and an honor - but there's no truth to it."
Instead, the Briton has been in "Luther: The Fallen Sun" on the Netflix streaming platform since March 10th. In the film sequel to the series, he slips back into the role of London Detective Chief Inspector John Luther.
