Hot "James Bond" rumor: will this comedian be the new M?

The British comedian Daisy May Cooper (36) is to play the new 007 boss M, is currently the hottest rumor when it comes to the cast of the new "James Bond" films. The actress, who is friends with "No Time to Die" writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 37, is said to bring a "comedic and quirky edge" to the role. Most recently, the iconic role of the MI6 leadership was embodied by acting greats Ralph Fiennes (60) and Dame Judi Dench (88).

As "The Sun" further reports, the recast could also be accompanied by a redesign of the series after Daniel Craig (55) left as James Bond.

A source told the British newspaper: "Daisy is a close friend of Phoebe's whose involvement in Bond was such a success that it sparked an unexpected conversation. And suddenly the production team was excited at the prospect of taking M in a new direction ." The insider added: "With Daniel gone it seemed like the time to make changes across the board and the dynamic between Bond and M is at the heart of the films. It opens the door to a slightly lighter and more comedic future - and will of course have an impact on the direction the new 007 will take."

And last but not least, the rumor mill says: The decision to use a female M is another sign that the next Bond will remain male. There had previously been speculation that the spy's gender could be changed for the next film.

After many delays, "James Bond 007: No Time to Die" was released in cinemas in 2021.
