Hollywood stars: Best friends since they were teenagers: Matt Damon and Ben Affleck even shared a bank account

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are among the most successful and well-known actors in Hollywood today. But they, too, started out small and went through difficult times. Because the start of her acting career was anything but glamorous. The two stars grew up together in Cambridge and even shared an apartment together. And they even shared a bank account at the time, as Damon now said in a podcast.

Both paid the money they earned into this account and were allowed to use it. A marriage-like model, then, between the two actors who were hoping for their big break at the time. "We wanted to help each other and be there for each other," Damon explained on journalist Bill Simmons' podcast. "As long as either of us had money, we knew the power wasn't going to be turned off."

In retrospect, Damon also considers the joint account to be "a strange thing", but at the time he and Affleck needed the money "for the audition". There were clear rules on how and for what the money in the account could be used. Damon recalls that you were only allowed to withdraw ten dollars at a time. But little by little things improved. Damon landed a role in the western "Geronimo" and made good money from it. "We don't have to worry for a year," he told Affleck at the time.

Such problems are a thing of the past for Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. But it fits their story that they achieved great success together: they received the Oscar together in 1998 for their screenplay for "Good Will Hunting" - both also take on leading roles in the film. They had previously tried unsuccessfully to sell the script in Hollywood for years.

Two great acting careers followed, and Damon and Affleck remain close friends. They are now world-famous superstars, but the hard times in the eighties, at the beginning of their acting career, had a lasting impact on them, says Matt Damon: "Matt and I always had the feeling that we were pulling together." That is why there is no competition for role offers. They play together again in the film "Air - The Great Throw", which will be released in April.
