The Berlinale wants to honor US director Steven Spielberg for his life's work. The 76-year-old is to receive the Honorary Golden Bear in Berlin on Tuesday. A press conference with him is planned for the afternoon (4:05 p.m.) and the award ceremony in the evening (9:30 p.m.). Then his new film "The Fabelmans" will also be shown, which is scheduled to hit German cinemas on March 9th.

Spielberg has films like Jaws, E.T. Filmed Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan and West Side Story. He won an Oscar three times and was nominated numerous times. "The Fabelmans" also has a chance of winning awards in seven categories. In addition, Spielberg received numerous Golden Globes and Emmys.

19 films in the running for the Golden Bear

Spielberg not only inspired generations all over the world, but also gave cinema a new meaning as a dream factory, the festival management of the Berlinale had announced in advance. Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the world's major film festivals. This year, 19 films are in the running for the Golden Bear and the Silver Bear. On Tuesday, German director Angela Schanelec's new film "Music" and "Le grand chariot" by Frenchman Philippe Garrel are on the program.
