Marvel is celebrating one of its greatest heroes: The company has announced a documentary about comic book writer and producer Stan Lee (1922-2018) that will be released on the Disney streaming service in 2023. Stan Lee would have been 100 years old yesterday, December 28th. Marvel released the teaser for the new project, simply titled "Stan Lee," on its Instagram account that day. It said: "100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee."

Stan Lee died of heart failure in a Los Angeles hospital in November 2018 at the age of 95. With the film, Marvel now apparently wants to honor the legacy of the comic book writer, publisher and producer. Lee is a co-creator of iconic characters such as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and many more.

Lee began working at comic book publisher Timely Comics, Marvel's predecessor, in 1939. During the 1960s, he rose to become a writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics before finally becoming editor in 1972. Lee would go on to become the company's most recognizable face, having made cameo appearances in many of Marvel's film and television projects to acclaimed comic book fanatics. In addition, the great master appeared regularly at comic conventions, let himself be celebrated as the comic personality in general - and also had a humorous guest appearance as himself in the successful sitcom "The Big Bang Theory".

"Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created," Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement after Lee's death. "A superhero in his own right for Marvel fans worldwide, Stan had the power to inspire, entertain and connect. The size of his imagination was matched only by the size of his heart."
