Track and field athlete Gina Lückenkemper (26) is Germany's athlete of the year 2022. The sprint star was honored on Sunday at a gala in the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden. She had won gold in the 100m and relay at the European Championships in Munich. The three-time "Sportswoman of the Year" Malaika Mihambo (long jump) and Natalie Geisendörfer (tobogganing) finished on the podium.

European decathlon champion Niklas Kaul (24) was voted Sportsman of the Year. Behind him are Vinzenz Geiger (Nordic Combined) and Florian Wellbrock (swimming). The "Team of the Year" award went to the Frankfurter Eintracht footballers, who defeated Glasgow Rangers after extra time and a penalty shoot-out in the final of the UEFA Europa League. In the team ranking, the women's 4x100 m relay took second place, and the women's national soccer team came in third.
