Gender equality: Spaniard has to pay his ex-wife more than 200,000 euros - as "wage" for 25 years of household work

Ivana Moral was married for 25 years. Her husband founded a successful gym during this time. He was able to do this because his wife had his back by taking care of the household, taking care of the two children and also helping out in the gym from time to time. It was therefore not possible for her to have her own job. When the couple divorced, the court also recognized this difficult situation - and gave a sensational verdict.

The judge ruled that Ivana Moral was "deprived of any possible career due to her exclusive devotion to home and family" and deserved compensation from her husband, who also gained massive wealth during the marriage. The verdict came despite the fact that the two had agreed on the separation of property when they married.

The 48-year-old has now been awarded a total of 204,624 euros, which her ex-husband has to pay her. The sum was calculated from the minimum wage valid in Spain for 25 years of housework. In addition, she receives maintenance payments of 500 euros per month. The couple's two daughters, now 16 and 20 years old, are said to receive 400 and 600 euros each month from their father. How the entrepreneur reacted to the judgment is not known - but he is said to have sufficient assets to be able to make the payment without any problems.

The ex-wife's lawsuit wasn't just about financial recognition: "Now it's no longer about the money, it's about the appreciation I've received for everything I've done with dedication over the past 25 years," says Ivana Morale. Your case could now potentially set a precedent for similar lawsuits in Spain, perhaps even across Europe.
