Film festival: Berlinale retrospectively takes Chinese film into competition

Another film is to enter the competition at the Berlinale. Chinese director Liu Jian's animated film "Art College 1994" was reported after the fact. The film was only made available to them very late, said a festival spokeswoman. With the film, a total of 19 productions are now in the running for the Golden Bear.

In the end, the international jury will decide on the awards. Actress Kristen Stewart ("Spencer", "Twilight") is chairing the panel this year. The other jury members were announced on Wednesday.

The German director Valeska Grisebach ("Western"), the US casting agent Francine Maisler ("Dune", "She Said"), the Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani ("Everything About Elly") and filmmaker Johnnie To were appointed Hong Kong. The jury also includes Spanish director Carla Simón and Romanian director Radu Jude, whose films "Alcarràs" and "Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn" had won in previous years.

Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the world's major film festivals. The Berlin Film Festival is scheduled to open in two weeks, on February 16th.
