Fashion review 2022: The most popular trends this year

From the notorious Y2K style to chunky loafers and XXL blouses: When it comes to fashion, 2022 once again had some special features to offer. But which trends were the most popular? A fashion throwback...

Low-rise trousers, skimpy skirts and neon colors have dominated the trends this year. The Y2K style, i.e. the fashion style of the 2000s, has really impressed fashion lovers again this year. This was also shown by the Google annual review 2022. The search engine giant has evaluated which style was googled the most this year. The Y2K style ranked fourth in the "Top 10 Styles (Fashion)" category - just behind "90s Style" (1st place) and "80s Style" (4th place).

The so-called preppy style was also popular in 2022 (sixth place in the Google annual review). Fashion boutiques were packed with polo shirts, cashmere sweaters, tweed blazers, trench coats and pleated skirts for weeks. The secret behind the preppy look is simple: items of clothing that at first glance seem incredibly conservative suddenly become sexy thanks to extreme cuts and unusual combinations.

With the popular preppy style came the hype surrounding chunky loafers, oversized blouses and trench coats - all garments that belong to that style and landed in the top 10 in the "Style (fashion)" category in the Google Year in Review 2022 . Oversize blouses were often knee-length this year and were worn as a dress in combination with a knitted sweater or slipover. On the other hand, loafers and trench coats were used in a variety of ways, harmonizing with both casual jeans and smart suit trousers or with dresses and skirts. After all, all three pieces are timeless classics and will certainly look good in the years to come.

Tone-in-tone outfits, also known as monochrome styles, were in demand this year both in spring and in winter. Means: All clothes have one and the same color. It sounds boring, but it can look really chic and stylish - especially as a pantsuit. If these remain trendy, next year they will probably come in Viva Magenta - the trend color for 2023. Incidentally, this was still Very Peri in 2022 - a purple combined with shades of blue and a reddish-violet undertone.
