Eurovision Song Contest 2023: The next ESC will take place in Liverpool

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place in Liverpool. This was announced on the BBC's "The One Show" on October 7. Actually, the Ukraine should have hosted the next ESC next year, as the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra triumphed at this year's competition in Turin.

However, due to the war, runner-up Britain took over. Sam Ryder (33) took second place in Turin, just ahead of Chanel (31) from Spain. The final choice of host city was between Glasgow and Liverpool, who had previously prevailed against fellow competitors Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. A total of 20 cities originally expressed an interest in hosting the ESC in Great Britain.

According to the broadcaster, the selection criteria included the capacity of the city and also the general experience in hosting large events. The rationale for the decision stated that Liverpool has a "fantastic" venue, the city offers a "beautiful backdrop" with a "rich musical history" and a "cultural offering" that puts Ukraine at the heart of the next competition . The BBC also announced that the final of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Liverpool Arena on 13 May.
