Culture: benefit concert in Hamburg for young people

In order to draw attention to the enormous concern for young people in the music and event industry, numerous well-known musicians performed at the benefit live stream concert "All Hands on Deck" in Hamburg on Tuesday. "It's very special, but also a matter of course," said the Erfurt singer Clueso about the event in Tim Mälzer's "Bullerei" restaurant. Many people from the industry have left in the past two or three years for a variety of reasons. "We have a shortage in the industry. That's just the way it is." But music is art and helps to orient oneself and is therefore very important for society.

Clueso was one of about 30 musicians who attended the free benefit live stream concert. Eko Fresh, Philipp Dittberner ("Wolke 4"), Kayef, Jupiter Jones and Laith Al-Deen had already appeared on stage in the evening. Beatrice Egli, Alvaro Soler, Conchita Wurst, Zoe Wees, Kelvin Jones, Jeanette Biedermann, Lina and Faye Montana should also present at least one song.

Six hour concert

The "All Hands on Deck" concert, which lasts about six hours, is intended to raise a large number of donations and sell many tickets for an arena concert in April in Berlin. Both should finally bring more young people to the industry. Because that is sorely missing. Sometimes the staff is so scarce that concerts that actually sell well have to be cancelled, as co-organizer Salome Agyekum said in advance.

"All Hands on Deck" is therefore organizing several workshops for all trades in the industry for April 2023 - from lighting to technology to sound. Anyone can apply. And 150 music-loving women and men are accepted. And the newcomers can apply what they have learned directly a little later at the arena concert in Berlin.

At the beginning of 2021, Agyekum and a comrade-in-arms created the benefit concert "All Hands on Deck" to draw attention to the dramatic situation in the industry and to collect many donations. This should primarily support the crews of the artists. More than 300,000 euros were collected in this way.
