Country of Beers Festival: crafts, options without alcohol or gluten and 'brewpubs' without leaving Madrid

Beer culture has an appointment this weekend – from May 27 to 29 – in Madrid. Ifema hosts the Country of Beers festival, an event that brings together fifty national manufacturers who are committed to taking this drink to a prominent position in gastronomy. Thus, pavilion number 1 of the Madrid fair will offer tastings together with an interesting program of workshops, courses and presentations.

Among the objectives of this meeting is to defend beer as a "democratic drink that does not understand geography." “Consumption penetration is similar in all the autonomous communities. Nor does it understand classes, since the brewers have the same socioeconomic profile as the country's population, ”says its organizers.

Neither of genders: it is a drink consumed in 53% of cases by men and, in 47%, by women”, they add.

Among the main attractions of the appointment is the 'classroom of knowledge'. A space designed so that beer lovers can enjoy an "immersive, gastronomic and cultural experience". Those who come to it will be able to participate in tastings and learn how to pair the different styles of beer in various workshops. In addition, there are scheduled talks that delve into the history of this ancient drink.

"The objective is to transmit the richness of this brewing universe from tradition, philosophy, respect and the pedagogical, cultural and training point of view", comment the creators of this initiative. Thus, there will be debates and conversations that will revolve around topics such as 'The hops, applications and results in beer'; 'The history of the varieties'; 'History and evolution of draft beer'; 'The sustainability of the beer industry'; 'The can as a sustainable container for our beer'; or 'Spring beers'. There will also be a special appointment with the history of beer in Spain.

Country of Beers will also deal with other current issues in the sector, such as alcohol-free and gluten-free options, 'spontaneous' beer; the world of yeasts or 'brewpubs'. A schedule has also been planned for workshops where those registered will be able to see the raw materials while tasting beer musts obtained during the different phases of the process.
