The DAZN commentator Christian Scherpe died at the age of only 24.

His football club FC Adler Meindorf said in an Instagram post: "It was with great dismay and speechlessness that we learned of the death of our player Christian Scherpe at the age of just 24."

How Scherpe died is not known. The commentator had only been employed by the DAZN streaming service for a few weeks. He only commented on his first game at the end of December. He proudly tweeted: "Still a little surreal when I think about the fact that I was allowed to make my debut on the microphone for @DAZN_DE last week".

The studied sports journalist prevailed in 2022 in the DAZN commentator casting against 5000 competitors.

Scherpe joined FC Adler four years ago, had gone through all the youth teams and was an important member of the senior teams. His club now says goodbye to Scherpe with the words: "Christian, we will always honor your memory. Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. Rest in peace."
