British Royals : Mobility issues: Queen misses Highland Games

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is missing out on the famous Highland Games in Braemar, Scotland this year. According to information from the German Press Agency, the background is the mobility problems of the 96-year-old monarch. According to media reports, heir to the throne Prince Charles (73) will be present at the event on Saturday.

The Queen usually takes a seat in the VIP stand at the sporting competition, which also includes the throwing of a log in a kilt. The event is part of the standard program of her stay in Scotland in the summer, when she traditionally spends her summer vacation at Balmoral Castle in the Highlands from the end of July to mid-September.

Discomfort with walking is also the reason why the Queen will accompany the upcoming change at the top of government in the coming week from Balmoral. Both outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his successor are due to travel to Scotland early next week.
