Bradley Cooper: Clean for 19 years

In an interview, Bradley Cooper (48) revealed that he has been sober for 19 years.

Speaking to British adventurer Bear Grylls (49) in the Wyoming Canyons, the actor said, according to the Daily Mail, that he didn't feel like he was lost in fame. Grylls asks, "But you've definitely had some wild years?" Cooper then admits, "In terms of alcohol and drugs, yes, but it had nothing to do with being famous. But I was lucky. I quit when I was 29 and I've been sober for 19 years. [I was] very lucky. "

Regarding his role as an alcoholic musician on "A Star Is Born," Cooper said his experiences made it easier for him to step into the role. "And thank God I was at a point in my life where I was dealing with all of this, so I could really let myself go." The film, starring Cooper and Lady Gaga (37), received seven nominations at the 2019 Oscars. It was also the Hollywood star's directorial debut.

During the adventurous interview, Cooper also spoke about his father, who died in 2011 with lung cancer in his son's arms: "I definitely had a nihilistic attitude to life after." Finally he realized "that I just have to accept who I really am. And try to make peace with it. And then it kind of leveled off again."

In 2020, a colleague even publicly thanked Cooper for helping him fight his alcohol addiction: Brad Pitt (59). Speaking to Cooper on stage at the National Board of Review Gala, the Hollywood star said, "I'm clean because of him and every day has been happier than the last. I love you and thank you again."
