Berlinale: Thea Ehre dedicates her Silver Bear to the trans community

The Austrian actress Thea honor emphasized the support from her environment after her award at the Berlinale. "I'm definitely dedicating this award to the trans community - people who have supported me," the 23-year-old told dpa on Saturday evening after the Berlinale award ceremony.

In Christoph Hochhäusler's crime thriller "Until the End of the Night," Honor plays a trans woman who, together with a police officer, is supposed to investigate undercover in the drug scene. She received a Silver Bear for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Honor said: "I also dedicate the award to my parents, who have always supported me as it should be." Her parents were the ones "who let me live as freely as I wanted".

She hopes that the film "will appeal to many people and that they will think about how they deal with people," Honor later said in a press conference. She would like more visibility for trans people and an awareness that many trans women live in precarious situations, in situations "that are extremely toxic and trans-hostile".
