Former US President Barack Obama (61) and his First Lady Michelle (58) have been married for three decades. For their 30th wedding anniversary on October 3rd, both shared touching Instagram posts and new pictures that show the two from a very private side.
"Miche, I'm not sure why 30 years later you still look exactly the same and I don't," Barack Obama wrote in his post. "But I do know that I won the lottery that day and that I couldn't have asked for a better life partner. Happy anniversary, darling!" In addition, the former US President shares, among other things, a holiday photo of the couple, which shows the two in a casual look with sunglasses in front of a mountain backdrop and a photo of their wedding. Especially cute: In another photo, the two painted their first names in the sand and surrounded them with a heart.
Michelle Obama addressed equally emotional words to her husband: "Happy anniversary to the man I love. These last 30 years have been an adventure and I am grateful to have you by my side. To a lifetime together. Me love you @BarackObama!" She also shared a vacation snap showing the two barefoot on the beach, another wedding photo and the photo of the heart in the sand.
Barack and Michelle Obama met in 1989 at a law firm in Chicago, Illinois, where the then 25-year-old became a mentor to the then 28-year-old Harvard graduate. While it is said to have been love at first sight for him, she was initially skeptical and is said to have rejected his romantic advances. But then one thing led to another and the two got engaged in 1991 after two years of relationship.
The wedding followed in Chicago in 1992, and six years later the couple's first daughter, Malia (24), was born on July 4th, US Independence Day. Daughter Sasha (21) followed in 2001. After the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the USA, the family of four moved into the White House in 2009. Since moving out in 2017, the Obamas have signed a multi-year contract with Netflix, among other things, and take care of charitable projects.
