Although backless dresses are not among the current fashion trends for 2022, they have nevertheless secured a permanent place in the fashion industry. The same applies to backless tops and tops, which come to the fore especially in the warm summer months - and with them numerous bra clasps. There are special models that have been developed for exactly this purpose: They should reveal a low back and still support a woman's breasts as usual. This article explains in detail how the fashionable items of clothing differ and what you should consider when buying a backless bra.

A backless bra should meet the same criteria as an ordinary one - otherwise you could just omit it altogether. In addition to the typical support function, the cups are essential for a well-fitting bra. But what makes it special and how does it differ from a classic model? We present you a small selection:

Normally the clasp of a bra is centered under the shoulder blades - and will be visible when you wear a dress or top with a plunging neckline. Unless you have a backless bra with a low-lying closure, Wonderbra's Ultimate Backless Bra is a good example. It is available in two colors (beige and black) and four cup sizes (A to D) and can be individually adjusted to your figure without slipping.

So-called stick-on bras do not have any straps or underbust bands: As the name suggests, the cups have a kind of sticky surface so that they stick to the breasts. Depending on the manufacturer, there are models with a clip fastener between the breasts to conjure up a beautiful décolleté. But there are also backless bras with laces that provide the desired push-up effect. It is important to know that some cups need to be cleaned after use - and the adhesion can decrease over time. In addition, the skin must be completely fat-free for an adhesive bra to stick to it. In other words, you shouldn't put cream or oil on yourself before wearing it.

And then there are also special bra extensions that can be used with (almost) all models: the low back straps – as they are known in the art – are hooked into the fastener and closed crosswise on the stomach. As a result, the bra sits significantly lower in the back and is therefore no longer visible if you are wearing a low-cut dress or top. Here, too, there are models in different colors (black, beige and transparent), so that you can optically adapt the extension to your bra and your taste.

As an alternative to a backless bra, there are nipple covers. Their sole purpose is to cover the nipples so they don't show under a sheer dress or top—unless you're wearing nothing underneath. They have no support function and do not replace a bra, so they are only to be understood as practical accessories.

And one more note at the end: adhesive bras are suitable for women with small breasts, as they do not have a high support function and therefore cannot offer optimal support. Backless bras with adjustable straps are a better choice for women with a slightly larger bust.
