The writer, songwriter and singer Sven Regener will be honored this year with the Paul Lincke Ring from the city of Goslar. The 63-year-old singer of the group Element of Crime is a “poetic expert in ironic-laconic tenderness,” said the jury on Friday. The undoped award is given annually to musicians who have made outstanding contributions to German-language music.
“His texts are shaped by personal passions and he draws a landscape of the soul using simple terms,” said Goslar’s mayor Urte Schwerdtner, according to a statement distributed in advance, at the New Year’s reception in the Hahnenklee district. When the award ceremony will take place there and whether the Bremen-born artist will play and sing on site is currently being clarified, the statement continued.
The prize is named after the German operetta composer Paul Lincke (1866-1946) and is awarded at his place of death, the Hahnenklee district of Goslar. Previous winners included Udo Lindenberg, Max Raabe and Helge Schneider and most recently Annett Louisan.
