Award: "Asterix" translator receives comic award "Peng!"

The "Asterix" translator Gudrun Penndorf receives the comic award "Peng!". The award will be presented at a gala at the Munich Comic Festival on Saturday. The prize reached her "just in time for her 85th birthday. A special gift," said the publisher Egmont Ehapa.

According to the announcement, Penndorf said: "It's nice that I can contribute to upgrading the comics text type so wonderfully with awards such as the Peng! Prize or the Federal Cross of Merit. So it's not just a special honor for me personally and my life's work , but also for graphic literature in general."

Penndorf has translated the first 29 "Asterix" adventures. This year, on October 26th, the 40th adventure of the popular Gallic heroes will be released. "I always get excited when a new volume comes out. This time the story takes place in the Gallic village again. The title 'The White Iris' makes me curious."

In addition to Asterix, Gudrun Penndorf is the translator of numerous comic classics such as "Lucky Luke" and the "Funny Paperback". Generations of readers have grown up with her work, and numerous quotes from Asterix have entered the German language. Her translations have been printed well over 100 million times.

Gudrun Penndorf, born in 1938, lives near Munich and is a qualified translator and interpreter for French and Italian. At the age of 40, she also began to study general and Romance linguistics and completed her studies with a Magister Artium. After a few years in the language department of Langenscheidt-Verlag, she became self-employed and worked from 1967 to 1995 as a freelance translator, primarily for Egmont Ehapa Verlag, the publisher of the comic classics Asterix, Lucky Luke, Isnogud and The Funny Paperback .
