Authorities announce: Now it's official: Schaller was on board the plane that crashed off Costa Rica

According to the local authorities, the German entrepreneur Rainer Schaller and relatives were on board the small plane that crashed off the coast of Costa Rica. A source at the San Jose Department of Public Safety confirmed Sunday that the founder of gym chain McFit and five other people were in the plane at the time of the crash. So far, the bodies of two fatalities have been found, and the search is ongoing.

According to the Costa Rican authorities, there were six people on board the machine, five Germans and a Swiss pilot. The "Bild" newspaper reported on Saturday, citing a spokeswoman for the operator of the McFit studios, RSG-Group GmbH, that the German inmates were Schaller, his girlfriend, her children and another man.

The machine that started in Mexico has been missing since Friday evening. On Saturday morning (local time), debris was found in the sea off the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, which is believed to have come from this plane.

According to information from the Costa Rican media, the small plane started in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. Public Security Minister Jorge Torres said the plane was on its way to the airport in the Costa Rican province of Limón when contact with it was lost at 6:00 p.m. local time on Friday (Saturday, 2:00 a.m. CEST). The plane suddenly lost connection with the control tower at Barra de Parismina airport.
