Auction: Elton John auctions off private art collection at Christie's

The British pop star Elton John (76) is auctioning off parts of his private art collection. As the auction house Christie's announced, the items from Elton John's home in the US metropolis of Atlanta will go under the hammer in a total of eight auctions in New York in February. These mainly include photographs, but also other objects such as sculptures, costumes, porcelain and a grand piano.

At first he only had one apartment in Atlanta, but gradually he bought the adjoining apartments to accommodate the many photographs, said the pop star in an interview with Christie's. His husband David Furnish described the home as “the most beautiful gallery in the world in the middle of treetops.”

The residence on Peachtree Road Atlanta, where he lived for more than 30 years, is no longer needed after his touring career ends, Christie's statement continued. The auction is appropriately titled “The Collection of Sir Elton John: Goodbye Peachtree Road.” The pop star also named his 27th studio album after the address. The auctions will take place between February 21st and 28th. The objects will be on display in a public exhibition at Christie's in New York from February 9th to 21st.
