A few weeks ago, Angelique Kerber (34) announced that she was going to be a mother for the first time. The German tennis ace is apparently already planning a comeback on the court. "I want to return as soon as possible," explains Kerber in an interview with "stern".
The comeback will take a while. The child should therefore come in spring 2023, but Kerber still wants to be in the big places in the same year. "I think I'll come back at the end of the year. So more like New York than Wimbledon, but if it's possible in Wimbledon, then like there too," she tells "Sport Bild". She wanted to "attack directly" and not "just play for training" in tournaments. According to Kerber, a nanny should also be there: "I won't leave the child at home."
In August, Kerber canceled her participation in the US Open "for the best possible reason". She announced on Instagram that she was expecting her first child. Although she really wanted to play the tournament, she had come to the conclusion "that two against one was just unfair". For the coming months she will therefore take a break from "traveling around the world as a tennis player".
