Amazon is causing movement on the German TV market. In the future, the online mail order company will also be selling various smart TVs it has developed in-house in Germany. The moderate pricing is particularly surprising. In addition, the company has announced that the cloud gaming service Amazon Luna is now available in Germany.
Customers can choose between several devices. The shipping giant describes the Fire TV Omni QLED series as its top model. The TVs are available in four sizes: 43 inches, 50 inches, 55 inches and 65 inches. They offer integration of the in-house voice assistant Alexa, 4K QLED displays and support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision IQ, among other things.
An ambient light sensor adjusts the screen brightness and an ambient TV function makes it possible, among other things, to display your own photos or Alexa widgets when no series or films are being streamed. These can sometimes display appointments and notes and also support the integration of smart thermostats or video doorbells. Consumers can not only use the in-house streaming service Prime Video, there are also apps for competitors and portals such as Netflix, Disney or YouTube.
In addition, Amazon now has models from the Fire TV 4 series with 4K UHD resolution, HDR10 and HLG in its range. The devices are equipped with 43, 50 or 55 inch displays. Two televisions from the Fire TV 2 series complete the range, but their 32-inch and 40-inch displays only offer resolutions of 720p (32 inches) and 1080p (40 inches), respectively.
The models of the different series normally cost between around 280 euros and 1,000 euros, but Amazon is currently offering all variants at a reduced price to get started. The 65-inch models of the Fire TV 4 and Fire TV 2 series as well as the Fire TV Omni QLED will start shipping on April 12th, the other variants starting on June 1st.
In addition to the USA, Canada and Great Britain, Amazon Luna is now also available in Germany. The cloud gaming service should make it possible to play video games on supported devices, even if you don't own a gaming PC or game console, for example. The games do not have to be installed for this.
Prime members receive free access to a monthly changing selection of games. There are also the subscriptions "Luna", "Ubisoft" and "Jackbox Games", which offer an even larger selection of titles, but cost between around five and 18 euros a month.
Luna can be used on compatible Windows PCs, Macs, Android smartphones, iPhones, iPads or Fire TV devices such as the Smart TVs presented or the Fire TV Stick from the second generation.
