After fake theft: Matthias Schweighöfer has a new wax figure

After the failed PR coup last weekend, Matthias Schweighöfer (42) has now received a new wax figure from Madame Tussauds. As the museum in Berlin announced, the previous figure will be replaced by the new one with immediate effect. In 3,000 hours of work, 20 artists created the actor's likeness. "I hope Madame Tussauds is forgiven for the little fun in the media. You caught me pretty badly," said Schweighöfer about the small scandal.

What happened? On Sunday, the Berlin branch of the London Museum posted the recording of an alleged surveillance camera on the official Instagram account. Schweighöfer himself shared the video post on his Instagram profile. To see in the video: Two hooded people steal the actor's previous wax figure. Those responsible initially wrote: "Early on Sunday morning, two people broke into Madame Tussauds Berlin and stole Matthias Schweighöfer's wax figure." A little later it turned out that this was not a real theft, but just a PR stunt.

A spokesman for the Berlin police confirmed to the "t-online.de" portal that local officials had investigated the alleged theft. There, however, it turned out that the burglary and theft never happened. That's why investigations were started against the people responsible for the video, it said. An update was later added on the Instagram video. It was an "initiated PR stunt in preparation for a cool action on Thursday".

Now we know which "action" was mentioned: the unveiling of the actor's new wax figure. "Wachs-Matthias 2.0 is an eye-catcher," enthuses Schweighöfer about his replica. It was great to be part of the creation of such a work of art a second time, according to the "Rubbeldiekatz" star. The measurement was particularly interesting for him: "Staying still for three hours is exactly my strength."
