"I had so much respect and admired her so much," the 66-year-old told The New Yorker magazine about the ten-year-old colleague. "No one bothered if she said what she thought."

Sarandon refrained from using limiting phrases like "I don't know what people would think" or "That must be a stupid idea," Davis recalls. "And that was my life: a string of restrictive paraphrases. The whole shoot was training for me how to say what you want very calmly and competently."
