When buying clothing and accessories, it is not only important that the item you want looks good. Manufacturing conditions or the material are also factors that are included in the purchase decision. Therefore, vegan handbags are always in demand. We explain what you should pay attention to when buying and which models are worthwhile.
Anyone who buys a handbag that is not made of (suede) leather sometimes has the impression that it could be vegan because it basically only consists of a textile upper. It is not uncommon for bags to have leather trimmings. Vegan handbags, on the other hand, do not contain any components made from material of animal origin, i.e. neither leather, nor fur, nor silk or wool, nor additives such as feathers, pearls or shells. The animal welfare organization PETA certifies brands that are vegan. You can use the corresponding logo as a guide to play it safe when making a purchase.
If you don't want to do without the look of leather: Leather is also available in a vegan version - then of course not of animal origin. Sustainable materials can be apple or grape leather, cactus leather, cork leather, but also recycled plastics such as PET from plastic bottles to be processed into this leather alternative. They often look very similar to leather and also feel good.
Especially on warmer days, a straw beach bag is the ideal vegan handbag. It's light, easy to combine and gives the look a summery, casual, light flair. Whether in pouch form or as a crossbody bag: the beach bag is an eye-catcher.
On the other hand, if you travel a lot and need a large vegan handbag, the classic shopper is a good choice. But it can be flashy: in a bright color like red, with stripes or other highlights.
Another bag classic that also exists in the world of vegan handbags is the saddle bag. Created by John Galliano in 1999, not only has it become a flagship item for the fashion house, but the Dior bag was Carrie Bradshaw's constant companion in the cult series "Sex and the City." They are now available in numerous variants, also made of vegan leather.
