Zurich is an enviable city. Rich, quiet, safe. And in the best of moments, nevertheless also surprising: It is a city that, against all probability, a concert hall, Maag may arise. Or a program such as the one that was presented yesterday: full of Zürcher stories of unusual cooperation between the major institutions, from the original ideas of cultural thinkers.

But, alas, Zürich is also a sad city. The Tonhalle Maag is on the Brink, because expected and lingered is, instead of developing a Vision. And the games in 2020 will be the last – even though they arrived after a rather heady realignment now is really in the city.

Why is that? Certainly not to the protagonists of the cultural scene, which is lacking neither in ideas nor the energy to implement it. The Tonhalle-Gesellschaft has funded the Tonhalle Maag almost single-handedly, not only for your own orchestra, but for many other operators – so for the city. And the list of actors to play page: How many are there here who want to make a difference and can.

What is missing is all this is a commitment of the city. The will ensure to the things that are made here. And the willingness to take responsibility for it. The arguments derived from the form of questions: The Maag-Areal is private, it means then, since we are not able to interfere. Or: The cost-Benefit calculation at the festival is not so.

The content is wrong. Strategically, however, already: because it makes you forget the sheer detail of the questions to the main question, namely those, where to develop, Zurich. And because at some point others begin to expect: 2.5 million francs, the Zurich Tonhalle, Maag is in accordance with the depreciation value, and there are at least two foreign buyers interested. If not soon something is happening, so is it possible that the hall will abgezügelt to elsewhere.

It would be a disgrace for the rich, safe, quiet Zurich. Or even more: a really sad Moment.
