Resolution on Turkish genocide has been blocked in the Senate

Senate of the UNITED states is blocking a resolution saying that Turkey has committed genocide on the armenians.

the Senate of the UNITED states blocking the resolution, which recognise the Turkish mass killings of armenians a century ago as genocide.

the Resolution was adopted by the Congress of the second chamber, the House of Representatives, in October, with the overwhelming majority of 405 votes to 11.

the Democrats are sitting on the majority in this chamber.

the Republicans have a majority in the Senate, and they say that the time for such a resolution is not now, as it will bring to Turkish anger.

the Resolution has not been a vote in the Senate. Sources in the Congress say that president Donald Trump in The White House does not want, that the process of resolution continues.

For the UNITED states is currently involved in several sensitive cases in Turkey, including the Turkish offensive against kurds in northern Syria, and in addition, there is the case of the Nato-country Turkey's purchase of the Russian anti-air system S-400.

the Resolution states that it is u.s. policy to commemorate the genocide of 1.5 million armenians in the now-dissolved Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923.

The Ottoman Empire had its centre in present-day Turkey.

Turkey accepts that many armenians in The Ottoman Empire were killed in battles with the military during the First world War.

But Turkey says the figure was not as high and rejects, that there was systematic killing of the armenians.

Several other countries call it genocide, and it has sparked Turkish anger.

the Vote in the House of Representatives in October was also condemned.

democratic senator Bob Menendez and republican senator Ted Cruz tried to get the resolution to the vote on Thursday, but it was blocked by Kevin Cramer, also a republican senator.

- I do not think that there is a single member of the Senate, who is not seriously concerned about Turkey's behavior, says Cramer.

- When the time is right, we adopt perhaps the resolution.
