The protagonists of the last three novels of Ferran Torrent (Sedaví, 68 years of age) operate in a state of permanent crisis in which new forms of life. He created the first title in the series, A food one day (Jot Down, 2017). He called it “the Second System”. It is made up of a number of people that live and thrive in the first system but at the margin of the law: “All they do is unlawful,” he notes with enthusiasm identity after committing to a soggy rice in the restaurant of his friend Carmina in El Saler (Valencia). That title will follow Individuals like us (pending appear at the Destination in Spanish) and now this publishing house has published the translation of the third installment: to be Able to tell it (Target), where the novelist recreates the theft never clarified the Banco Exterior of Spain, in Valencia, in which the robbers took advantage of the hustle and bustle of the mascletà fallas to be more than a hundred million pesetas, 1992.
MORE INFORMATIONFerran Torrent is served of the mood and the acidity to portray the Valencia PP Ferran Torrent: "I Never wanted to be useful in life,"
in order To write this novel, which he traces back to the time of the political transition with a substantial increase of the booty (1,500 million pesetas), he has had to get into the skin of criminals. “I have become a robber, because I am the brain of the robbery”, he confesses. Went to the bank several times, toured for many others the journey they had to do the 1 of march of 1983 to get to the car and flee. Clocked the time, he measured the route. Be sure that the thieves could pass unnoticed in the staircase of access to the entity, to put on masks, take the machine guns out of plastic and start the assault while in the street shot the mascletà with the crowd packed looking at how it blows up the sky. And, above all, ensured that after the theft, the cacos, each one with a bag, you could walk across the street with people and in three or four minutes to get to the vehicle.
Torrent does not work with arguments, but with ideas that you are going by threading. In the book there are practically no descriptions. There is No narration: there is dialogue. And the dialog print speed. “A character when dialogue is described. The descriptions obstruct the fluidity of the novel” justifies. In addition, the irony that oozes all of his work compels him to do dialogue long, but short and impactful. Be able to tell the tale flows quickly as a comedy by a main plot and subplots that open and close, which is expand with secondary characters who come and go and whose role is giving way to the novel. To not get lost in the maze that knitting while he wrote, papered part of the wall against his work table with a sheet with all the main characters, the secondary ones, the times that are listed, and the leitmotif of the novel. Also, you used a book with synopses of the chapters as a rear-view mirror.
Ferran Torrent is not considered a writer but a novelist. Argues that a writer makes "other things", while he only writes novels. Is the only author in Catalan in Valencia and lives in their books, a peculiarity that makes it “not a rare species, but in a kind of target shooting”, for the hives that arouses in a part of the guild: “I Only worry about the things that you have the” remedy", discarded. He has written nearly thirty books, most of which have been translated into Spanish. Several of his novels have been taken to the cinema, as A black man with a sax (1989), and Thanks for the tip (1997), both directed by Francesc Bellmunt, and is one of the favourite authors of coach Pep Guardiola. His best-selling book in Spanish is The life in the abyss, which was a finalist for the Planeta prize in 2004. The award could change your life, but to avoid it he changed his phone number and focused on what he considers that he knows to do.
all in all, his work sells better in French and in German than in Spanish. When asked for the cause replied with another question, complicated answer: “What is the author in Catalan has sold books translated into Spanish?”, and leaves a silence is very expressive. From their point of view, the market in Spanish it behaves normally with the writers in galician and basque, something that he regrets, not the case with the authors in Catalan, although they hoped that some day the situation stabilizes. Not even serves the example of Josep Pla, perhaps the Catalan writer with the greatest resonance in Madrid. “Had an echo. Francisco Threshold given pitch, Dionisio Ridruejo translated it, but it was not an important entry on the market in Spanish”, he argues. “I think it is still there”, it hurts.Updated Date: 15 January 2020, 11:00
