"1001 Nights": Disney is planning a live-action adaptation

With "Aladdin", Disney has filmed a story from "1001 Nights" several times. Now the studio is taking on the whole collection of fairy tales. As "Deadline" reports, Walt Disney Pictures is planning a live-action adaptation of the oriental stories.

According to "Deadline" it should be a real film with elements of fantasy and science fiction. The project should also stand on its own and have no connection to "Aladdin". There are no more details yet.

So far, only the author who is supposed to deliver the screenplay for "1001 Nights" is known. Arash Amel (46) is to adapt the classic of world literature. Born in Wales, the writer and producer grew up in Iran before returning to the UK.

Amel recently wrote the Disney documentary "Rise" about basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo (27). He previously wrote the scripts for films such as "Grace of Monaco" with Nicole Kidman (55) or "A Private War" with Rosamund Pike (43).

The stories from "1001 Nights" are probably based on Indian fables, which were passed on to Arabic via Persian. Well-known stories like those of Aladdin or Sinbad the Sailor were probably only added over the centuries.
