The Ministry for the Ecological Transition sent to the Geological Institute of Spain (IGME) projects of environmental impact of mining or extraction of hydrocarbons, among others. It does so to check whether the initiatives comply with the legislation and what environmental improvements are needed or what drawbacks there are, explains Luke Vadillo (Madrid, 1950), engineer of mines in this organism. Always within its competencies, which are the condition of the natural environment, groundwater, seismic or flood.

Question. why are they so important the environmental impact statements?

Response. seeks a balance between the environment and the impact of the project. In Spain, carried out by the ministry and the signature of the minister for the Ecological Transition. According to whether it is positive or negative can be done or not.

Q. How does it affect the nature that does not exist for that figure?

A. A large part of biodiversity would be altered, because it would disappear a control on the impact they have on farms like mine, which is very important, even brutal. Without the law of environmental assessment this would be like the law of the jungle. And yet there are occasions in which politicians, even recognizing the environmental impact, are positioned in favor of certain projects.

Q. What do you think that the united States intends to reduce this type of controls?

A. In the united States oil companies wanted to go to approve a pipeline to carry gas and oil from Canada and forbidden by the previous president, Barack Obama. When you get to the White House, Donald Trump is placed on the side of the oil clearly and will be trying the annulment of some articles of the law on environmental impact, as he had already said clearly. Trump represents the climate-change deniers and doesn't stop being an entrepreneur.

Q. well, what does that policy have on climate change?

A. the united States is today an exporter of oil and gas by the method of fracking [technique for the extraction of oil and gas from the subsoil]. That is assuming already that there is an induced seismicity in the natural environment of the oil fields, a greater emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and which may have condition to certain aquifers by the emission of gas through the probe.
