MTV Movie & TV Awards returns Sunday; 'Spider-Man’ leads the nominations

MTV Movie & TV Awards returns Sunday with a live program that could see Spider-Man: No Way Home win some trophies.

With seven nominations, the 2021 phenomenon enters the show as the top nominee. "No Way Home", which earned nearly $1.9 billion at the box-office, was the most popular film of the year. It was also a fan favorite. However, it was mostly overlooked by major awards shows.

MTV's celebrations of television and films is lighter and more casual. This year Vanessa Hudgens will host the show. The broadcast will be live from Barker Hanger, Santa Monica, California at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Jack Black will be honored with the Comic Genius award, and Jennifer Lopez will be receiving this year's Generation Award. This honor recognizes actors whose contributions to film and television have made them household names.

Six nominations have been made for HBO's "Euphoria", while four are for "The Batman". During the two-hour-long show, 26 awards will go to gender-neutral categories.

The show added "Here for the Hookup", and best song awards this year.

Swae Lee and Diplo will perform "Tupelo Schuffle" in the "Elvis" biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann.

After being recorded for many years, the ceremony will be re-recorded live.
