Megan Thee Stallion was joined by DaBaby at the BET Awards last year, which was the first awards show to air during a pandemic. It was a critical success. It featured high-quality pre-taped performances that were well-produced and well-crafted. Some of them focused on the Black experience, which was highlighted by Black Lives Matter, civil rights, and the loss of life due to George Floyd.

Participants who have been vaccinated will be able to register for the show to participate in the live audience. According to the network, it works closely with Los Angeles County in order to comply with COVID-19 protocols.

Although press coverage at the awards show is limited, BET plans to host a red carpet prior to the live event. This will feature many big-name presenters such as Issa Rae and Naomi Campbell, Lena Waithe (Mj Rodriguez), Sawetie and Jill Scott, Marsai Mart, Chloe Bailey, Ashanti, and Sawetie. Jennifer Hudson will also be present at the event.

Cardi B and Drake are the second most nominated artists at the BET Awards. They scored five bids each. Four nominations went to Chris Brown and Chloe x Halle. All those artists are up for video of the Year.

The Weeknd is up for album/R&B of the year, best male pop/R&B singer, and the late rapper Pop Smoke. He won five Billboard Music Awards last week and was nominated at the BET Awards with two nominations, including best male hip hop artist.
