CHICAGO , -- Officials announced Wednesday that five gang members were indicted for murder in the shooting death of a Chicago rapper last year. The incident, which prosecutors claim was part of an ongoing violent effort by Chicago's South Side to protect gang territory territories, was reported by officials.

In a press release, the Chicago U.S. Attorney's Office stated that O-Block gang shot down Carlton Weekly (also known as "FBG Duck") in August 2020 in trendy Gold Coast. They also claimed responsibility for violence in Chicago and used music and social media to expand their criminal enterprise.

Chicago residents Charles Liggins (30), Kenneth Roberson (28), Tacarlos Offerd (30), Christopher Thomas (22) and Marcus Smart (22) are charged with murder in aid to racketeering. Afternoon court hearing: Smart, Offerd and Liggins entered pleas of not guilty and were placed in custody pending their detention hearings. Roberson wasn't present in court, and the U.S. Attorney's Office stated that his initial hearing had been cancelled.

Weekly was outside an Oak Street store in broad daylight when two men climbed out of two cars and opened fire. Then, the men drove off. Weekly was shot to death, and another man and a woman were hurt. Police stated that it was a targeted attack against Weekly and another nearby man. According to the Chicago Tribune, police believe Weekly, 26, was targeted by his video that he posted days prior in which he criticised rival gang members who died.

According to the release, Smart, Offerd and Thomas were all arrested Wednesday morning. Roberson was already being held in Cook County Jail.

Federal murder charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence in prison of one year and a maximum sentence of death.
