Stock exchange in Frankfurt: Dax starts the central bank week weaker

Investors avoid risk on Monday ahead of important interest rate decisions later in the week. The Dax started trading 0.47 percent lower at 14,303.45 points, following the late Friday weakness on the US stock exchanges and the lighter Asian stock exchanges. The MDax lost 0.51 percent to 25,473.90 points and the EuroStoxx 50 also moved about half a percent lower in early trading.

"Market participants will probably exercise restraint before the important events this week," wrote the experts at Landesbank Helaba in the morning. In the coming days, they will concentrate on the decisions of the US Federal Reserve in the middle of the week and the European Central Bank (ECB) on Thursday. Before that, however, the US inflation data will be of greater importance on Tuesday.

An interest rate hike of 0.50 percentage points is expected in both the USA and the euro zone, and thus interest rate increases that will not be quite as large as recently.
