Stock exchange in Frankfurt: Dax on the US holiday almost unchanged

The Dax barely moved on the first day of the new week. Overall, the start of the week was quiet due to the closed US stock exchanges on President's Day. The leading German index closed 0.03 percent lower at 15,477.55 points. After the high for the year two weeks ago at 15,658 points, the stock market barometer lacks a clear trend. The MDax of medium-sized companies fell by 0.19 percent to 28,804.22 points on Monday.

Investors used the weak start to the week to take profits from stocks that have recently performed particularly well. At the end of the Dax, the shares of the aerospace group Airbus lost more than two percent. The papers of the engine manufacturer MTU lost almost two percent.

Commerzbank shares lost three and a half percent in the MDax after reaching their highest level since 2018 on Friday. The fact that the financial institution returned to the leading index with the departure of the gas manufacturer Linde from the Dax at the end of the month did not change anything. The step had been expected.

On the other hand, shares in Gerresheimer jumped to their highest level in a good twelve months on Monday after a positive analyst comment and ended up gaining 2.7 percent at the top of the MDax. Expert Alexander Galitsa from Hauck

Teamviewer's shares rose by around one percent after investors bought bids for the traditional English club Manchester United. According to dealers, the offers could increase Teamviewer's chance of getting out of the expensive sponsorship contract with the football club.

The papers of the chip manufacturer Elmos Semiconductor had reached a record high at the end of last week and now buckled by more than five percent at the end of the SDax small-cap index.

The EuroStoxx 50, the leading index in the euro zone, fell by 0.09 percent to 4271.18 points. France's Cac 40 was also slightly down, while Britain's FTSE 100 was modestly up.

The exchange rate of the euro rose. The European Central Bank set the reference rate at 1.0674 (Friday: 1.0625) US dollars. The dollar thus cost 0.9369 (0.9412) euros. On the bond market, the current yield fell from 2.54 percent on Friday to 2.46 percent. The Rex pension index rose by 0.27 percent to 125.00 points. The Bund future lost 0.29 percent to 134.92 points.
