Stock exchange in Frankfurt: Dax falls slightly - investors wary of Fed interest rate decision

Investors' joy at the easing of inflationary pressure in the US initially ebbed further on Wednesday before the Fed's interest rate decision. In early Xetra trading, the Dax fell by half a percent to 14,429 points.

Investors apparently do not want to take any more risks before the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision in the evening. Most analysts expect interest rates to rise by 0.50 percentage points. This would allow the Fed to ease its recently more aggressive monetary policy stance to curb inflation with several interest rate hikes of 0.75 percentage points.

The MDax fell on Wednesday morning by 0.63 percent to 25,855 points, while the Eurozone's leading index, the EuroStoxx 50, also fell by a third percent.

In terms of individual values, the shares of Merck KGaA took the lead in the Dax with an increase of one and a half percent. They benefited from a buy recommendation from Bank UBS, which was optimistic about the pharmaceutical and chemical group's LifeScience division in particular.

Among the smaller stocks, Synlab, the SDax tail light, lost more than six percent after Deutsche Bank canceled its buy recommendation for shares in the laboratory service provider.

Shares in the Hensoldt armaments group, on the other hand, rose by two percent. The armaments company has expressed optimism about the business prospects.
