The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, assured this Tuesday that he is willing to extend “beyond June 30” the measures contemplated in the royal decree law approved to alleviate the economic and social impact in Spain of the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

He said this at the press conference he offered from Brussels at the end of the European Council meeting in which the situation in Ukraine and the measures against Russia were analyzed, when asked about the rise in prices.

Sánchez assured that the Government will do "everything in our power to protect" the industry, the company and the family, in general the Spanish economy, as, he assured, was done during the pandemic

. Because, he deepened, of the impact of the war and the measures against Russia, "the cost is important, but even greater would be the cost of doing absolutely nothing."

The head of the Executive did not detail what measures they are thinking of extending their term of validity, and only specified that from the economic area "an evolution of the situation is being made" and "there will be a response before June 30" on the measures, such as the reduction of gasoline or the ceiling of the rents, fixed in said royal decree law.

Thus, he defended that the nature and purpose of the Government's royal decree-law with the measures was to review the validity "every three months" to "see the evolution of the crisis" from the development of the war and its impact economic and social.

Sánchez insisted on the idea that “no economy is safe from the impact of this supply cut” that the European Union is addressing to break away from energy dependence on Russia.

In this sense, he was "in favor of talking to Putin" and that there be an "open diplomatic channel" to "achieve an end to hostilities, while we must be forceful in the measures," said the president, in defense of the latest actions taken at the European Union level.
