Inheritances can not only cause disputes within the family, but sometimes also between the federal and state governments: As a result of new valuation rules for real estate, many expect higher inheritance and gift taxes from 2023. Inheriting and giving away then becomes more expensive for those involved.
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) therefore wants to get to the allowances and increase them. "In my opinion, they should be raised by about 25 percent," he told the "Augsburger Allgemeine". Antje Tillmann, financial policy spokeswoman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, insists on it. "We're going to ask that so the average single-family home stays exempt from the increase," she told Capital.
