Equal Pay Day was introduced in 2008, when it fell on April 15th. At that time, the wage gap was even larger. A law that would make companies responsible is not yet in sight. Last December, the traffic light coalition was not even able to bring itself to agree to a new EU directive for more equal pay. Instead, the accusation continues to apply that women themselves are to blame for the salary difference: Because they work part-time more often or in lower-paid sectors than men.
